Introduction to Admissions
We are delighted that you are interested in Bowdon Prep for the education of your daughter.
Bowdon Prep is a successful independent day school for girls aged 3–11 years. We aim to ensure that our pupils flourish in a setting where early experiences and learning form the foundation of holistic progress as girls move up the school; therefore, we hope that all our pupils will stay with us until they transfer to secondary school. We prepare our girls for entry into the top senior schools in the area, and we have an excellent record of success in entrance examinations to local grammar and independent day schools, and scholarships to public schools.
The main points of entry for girls into Bowdon Prep are Kindergarten and Reception, at ages 3–4 years. Vacancies occasionally occur in other year groups, and we welcome applications for entry at other times if places are available.
We understand that choosing a new school can sometimes be a daunting task, but our Admissions Officer, Mrs Sharkey, is on hand to guide and help you. Admissions procedures differ depending on the age of your daughter. However, the process usually begins with a visit to the school, on a pre-arranged personal tour. Prospective parents are always welcome to contact Mrs Sharkey to check the availability of places and discuss their application in more detail.
Please do contact us with any further questions you may have; we will be delighted to assist. Please view the tabs on the right to give you further information, or you are welcome to book a personal visit or email Mrs Sharkey directly.
Kindergarten (ages 3–4)
The first major intake point into the school is at age 3 years, into Kindergarten. Each year, we have places for up to 36 girls, split between two classes. Girls can start with us at any point in the term that they turn 3 years. There is no specific entrance assessment for girls joining us in Kindergarten or Infants. Places are offered where parents wish their daughter's education to continue at Bowdon Prep through to Year 6.
Infants: Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 (ages 4–7)
A limited number of places are available for entry to the Reception class of the Infants department, at age 4 years.
Juniors: Years 3–7 (ages 7–11)
For girls wishing to join us in Juniors, in Year 3, there is a formal entrance assessment and we will also request a comprehensive report from their current school. This will help parents to make an informed decision about whether Bowdon Prep is the appropriate choice for their daughter.
