Year 3

Welcome to Year 3

A warm welcome to all our Year 3 parents.

As the girls progress to the Juniors, there is a growing formality in the undertaking of academic studies. Pupils are encouraged to take more responsibility for their learning and their contribution to school life. They grow to understand their importance in the community, through both instruction and example.

The pupils in Year 3 follow a rich, broad and stimulating curriculum, and they are encouraged to work hard and enjoy their achievements from the start. There is a strong emphasis on English and mathematics. As they progress through Prep, they become accustomed to subject specialist teachers, and start to use specialist facilities for science, art, design and technology, information and communication technolgy (ICT) and music. Our broad curriculum is enriched with visiting speakers and trips to places of interest relating to the girls' studies.

High expectations are important both inside and outside the classroom, and we set great store by the development of good manners, self-discipline and consideration for others.

A presentation for parents is held in the summer term prior to entry to Year 3. This provides an opportunity to meet the Year 3 teachers, as well as to give an insight into what to expect as the girls move forward. The girls also have a ‘moving-up’ session towards the end of the summer term of Year 2, when they spend part of the day having an introduction to Year 3 with their new teachers and in their class groups.

There is no doubt that there is a ‘step up’ to Year 3. We firmly believe that a Bowdon Prep education brings out the best in each and every girl, and that it provides pupils with a strong platform from which they can confidently move into their senior school as independent, self-reliant individuals.

Year 3 Teachers

Mrs Paterson, Mrs Turner-Wilson and Ms Virr are the Year 3 form teachers. They oversee the girls’ academic and pastoral needs, and progress. In Year 3, the girls are taught by well-qualified teachers in all subjects, and the highest possible standards are reached through praise, encouragement and a full understanding of each pupil's needs and abilities.

The Year 3 welcome booklet contains details of the Year 3 curriculum and the activities that will be covered. We have included details about developing children’s reading, writing and numeracy, and specific information about homework and class routines. Click here to view....
