Welcome to Year 5
Throughout Year 5, the curriculum, and monitoring and support systems are designed to challenge, develop and meet the needs of every individual girl.
In order for the pupils to feel ready for life at secondary school, it is essential that they leave us with key skills in core areas. The pace at which girls are required to learn and the challenging objectives they are set make Year 5 a demanding time. School life is industrious and creative. If we were to picture a successful Year 5 learner, they would have certain personal qualities that enable them to shine. They are becoming self-reflective learners, and know their own strengths and celebrate them with pride. They have recognised how they learn best, and they play to their strengths across the curriculum. Yet these children also know their areas for personal development, ask for help when needed, and recognise ways in which they can support themselves to make progress. Essentially, the most successful children show self-resilience, and understanding that we learn from our mistakes, and they are driven by self-motivation and a strong desire to achieve.
We aim to develop girls who are well rounded, open minded and keen to participate in all aspects of life. This personal development is realised through a range of opportunities, which include:
- A stimulating, challenging and varied curriculum
- A variety of enriching trips and visits
- Form, house and school activities
- Leadership opportunities
- Opportunities to represent the school
Year 5 Teachers
Mrs Donachie and Miss Corrigan are the Year 5 form teachers and they take a lead responsibility for the pastoral care of the girls. Mathematics and English are taught by our subject specialists Mrs Donachie, Miss Corrigan, Mrs Webb, Mrs McCallum and Miss Kearns. Science, PE, art, design and technology, French, and information and communication technology (ICT) are also taught by subject specialist teachers. The learning support team works in partnership with form teachers to ensure that girls make maximum progress and have access to additional support when needed.
The Year 5 welcome booklet contains details of the Year 5 curriculum and the activities that are covered. We have included details about developing reading, writing and numeracy, and specific information about homework and class routines. Click here to view....
