Governors

The Governing Body of BPS is made up of a dedicated group of professionals who are deeply committed to the school’s Vision and Values. We are fortunate to benefit from their wide-ranging expertise across education, child protection, business management, finance, law, property and human resources. Many governors have long‑standing links with the school, either as former parents or through previous senior roles within the BPS community.

The Governing Body meets regularly and maintains a strong understanding of the school working collaboratively as a cohesive, forward‑thinking team, providing clear strategic direction and valuable support.

Ms Ettrut Hussain

Ms Hussain’s two daughters attended the school, the youngest leaving in July 2022. Ms Hussain is the Head of IT at the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority and has a wealth of IT change experience. Throughout her career she has maintained a keen involvement in diversity having set up inclusivity initiatives both in schools and within organisations like Lloyds Banking Group and The Co-op Bank. Ms Hussain joined the Board in August 2022.

Mr Ian McIntyre

Ian McIntyre is Managing Director of the Repton Family of Schools, with responsibility for the growth and development of Repton’s UK and international school portfolios. Following an early career spent teaching in UK independent schools including two Headships, Ian went on to lead the international development of Brighton College from 2010-19, opening their schools in the Middle East and South East Asia. From 2019-26 he was International Development Director at Rugby, responsible for developing Rugby’s schools in Japan, Nigeria and Dubai. Ian joined the Governing Body in September 2026.

Mrs Jan Bacon

Mrs Bacon has recently retired having enjoyed a varied career in Primary Education in both the state and independent sectors in UK and abroad. She has held a variety of senior management and advisory roles including being Headteacher of a large multicultural school in Nairobi, Kenya. On returning to UK and moving to the area, she joined Altrincham Preparatory School as part of the EYFS team becoming Assistant Headteacher for KS1 until retirement beckoned. She continues her international work with an educational charity in Goa, India and is currently Chair of Governors of a local academy school. Mrs Bacon joined the Board in January 2025..

Mrs Charlotte Commarmond

Mr Nick Edwards

Mr Edwards is a retired bursar and has been an Independent School Bursars Association consultant bursar for the past 7 years, in five different schools, including BPS during the first lockdown. Prior to that he had a 16-year career as a school bursar in the Northwest, and still further back as a regular officer in the Corps of Royal Engineers. His skills lie in the operational management of schools and support to leadership teams and boards of governors. Mr Edwards joined the Board in January 2022.

Mrs Victoria Harding

Victoria Harding is the Head of Repton Prep School in Derbyshire. She has over 20 years of experience working in schools and was previously Head of Sarum Hall School, Deputy Head then Acting Head at Newland House School in London, and has also taught at Eton College, Falkner House and Lambrook Schools. She has been Director of Music at Garden House School, London and subsequently at the Dragon School in Oxford; she has taught Art, Music, History, French and English during her career. Victoria read Music at Edinburgh University and went on to study as a postgraduate at the Royal Academy of Music in London, where she was in demand to perform in concerts across the UK and abroad, including Buckingham Palace. She is passionate about ensuring pupils have a set of transferrable skills at school and firmly believes that education needs to constantly look forwards, reflecting and evolving, in order to meet the needs, personalities and interests of the pupils in an ever-changing and dynamic world. Victoria is the Chair of the Academic and Pastoral Committees for all Repton Family of Prep Schools in the UK.

Mrs Sally Lees

Sally Lees is the Deputy Head (Safeguarding) and Designated Safeguarding Lead at Repton School. She joined Repton in 2011 as Head of Modern Languages, then in 2015 became Housemistress of The Garden boarding house. In 2020, she took over responsibility for New Staff Development, including Early Career Teachers, and became a Deputy DSL before taking on the DSL role in 2022. She champions reflective supervision in education to support staff in key pastoral roles.

Mr Greg Lines

Mr Lines’ two daughters attended BPS. He grew up in Hale and was educated at St. Ambrose College, is a qualified Chartered Accountant and has experience of working in the offshore financial services industry. Since returning to the UK in 2004, he is now the Managing Director of Mandata Contracts Ltd and Blue Line Containers Ltd, companies operating in the transport, document archive and storage industries. Mr Lines joined the Board in October 2019.

Ms Rachel Murphy

Ms Murphy’s two daughters attended Bowdon Preparatory School. She is a qualified Chartered Accountant and has spent many years working in private practice specialising in tax. She is a partner in a North West firm of Chartered Accountants. Ms Murphy joined the Board in September 2020.

Mrs Abbie Stewart

Mrs Stewart grew up in Bowdon and attended Withington Girls’ School. She is an experienced primary school teacher and worked at Altrincham Preparatory School for sixteen years, teaching in the Pre-Prep as well as being a member of the senior leadership team. She has recently moved into a new career, working with children in care. Her daughter was a pupil at BPS and becoming a Governor seemed the natural next step to keep involved with the school as it develops for the next generation of girls. Mrs Stewart joined the Board in January 2022.

Mr Roger Willey

Mr Willey’s daughter attended BPS. A qualified Chartered Engineer, he has spent his career in the energy utilities and construction industries as MD/Commercial Director of several companies with a strong focus on leading strategy, value creation, customer service and safety whilst creating and leading high performing teams. He has recently started his own business to support the energy transition to net zero. Mr Willey joined the Board in October 2024.

The governors are also Trustees of Bowdon Preparatory School Limited, which is a charity (Charity No.1142325) and a company limited by guarantee (No. 07577822), registered in England at the following address: Ashley Road, Altrincham, Cheshire WA14 2LT, UK.
