Staff

Outstanding teachers are the foundation of an exceptional education.

At Bowdon Preparatory School, academic excellence lies at the heart of everything we do, supported by a high teacher-to-pupil ratio and a team of dedicated, experienced professionals who empower each child to thrive academically and personally.

As pupils progress through the school, specialist subject teaching provides depth, challenge, and continuity as transition through the school and eventually onto senior school.

Our teachers share a passion for inspiring curiosity, nurturing confidence, and creating an environment where both pupils and staff can thrive and achieve their full potential.

Mrs S Makepeace-Taylor

Welcome to Bowdon Preparatory School.

At BPS, we believe every child deserves an education that inspires, supports, and empowers them to flourish — academically, socially, and personally. Children join a warm, stimulating community where being known, valued, and understood truly matters. Our ethos of Believe, Persevere, Succeed is embedded in all we do.

Our specialist teachers are passionate about their subjects and dedicated to nurturing confidence, resilience, and curiosity in every pupil. Pastoral care sits at the heart of our approach. Whether in the classroom, on the sports field, or in the performing arts studio, pupils are encouraged to believe in themselves, persevere through challenges, and celebrate every success — whatever their strengths or ambitions.

The vibrant campus offers first-class facilities and a rich programme of experiences, from competitive sports and creative arts productions to STEM challenges. Throughout their time here, pupils form strong friendships, develop responsibility, and find their place within a caring and purposeful community.

Every year, our pupils achieve excellent results, securing places at leading senior schools, including Trafford grammar schools and a broad range of outstanding independent schools. Pupils leave Bowdon Prep not only with strong academic foundations, but with confidence, integrity, and joyful memories of their learning journey.

It is a privilege to serve as Headteacher of Bowdon Preparatory School, where each day is filled with energy, curiosity, and care. I warmly invite you to explore our website, discover what makes our school special, and come and visit us in person.

Ms K Pheasant

I joined the school five and a half years ago and have greatly enjoyed contributing to an environment that nurtures pupils’ growth, confidence, and success. Prior to this role, I spent over two decades working in the banking sector, followed by many years running my own business. I am committed to ensuring that our pupils have everything they need to thrive, and one of the things I value most about the school is seeing the girls develop independence, ambition, and self-belief.

Mrs C Delf

I am in my ninth year at BPS and greatly enjoy working with a rich and varied curriculum, as well as watching pupils grow in independence and creativity. My experience includes serving as a Deputy Headteacher in a coeducational primary school, supporting SEND provision, and leading literacy initiatives across Trafford and Cheshire West. I am committed to delivering equitable, multisensory learning experiences that inspire enquiry, nurture independence, and foster a genuine love of learning. I value the school’s strong sense of pride, its shared values, and the way each pupil’s unique strengths are recognised and celebrated. Outside school, I enjoy travelling, reading, art, history, and exploring wildlife.

Mrs G Oakley

Since joining Bowdon Prep in 2022, I have loved being part of such a welcoming and vibrant school community. From my very first visit—when Sara Makepeace Taylor greeted me with a warm hug—I knew Bowdon was the right place for me. What I value most about Bowdon Prep is the warmth of its pupils and staff, who make every day a genuine joy.
With experience across both state and independent settings, including serving as an EYFS Phase Leader in an Outstanding MAT in London, I bring a wealth of knowledge of Early Years and KS1, as well as experience teaching every primary year group. I am passionate about fostering curiosity, independence, and a sense of wonder in young learners, and I especially enjoy supporting children as they take their first steps into reading. Outside school, I enjoy cooking, reading, swimming, hiking, and spending time with my family.

Mrs S Hughes

I have been at the school for 12 years and continue to love its strong reputation, warm community, and the exciting opportunities to further develop our PE and sport provision. Before joining BPS, I taught PE across both coeducational and single‑sex secondary and independent schools. I am passionate about creating learning experiences that spark enthusiasm, build confidence, and nurture a lifelong love of learning. Watching pupils grow throughout their journey—and witnessing those wonderful moments when everything “clicks”—is one of the most rewarding parts of my role. From my very first day, Bowdon felt like family, and that sense of belonging continues to make coming to school an absolute joy. Outside school, I enjoy travelling, theatre, live music and sport, skiing, going to the gym, and spending time outdoors in the mountains.

Mrs F McGrath

I have been at the school for six years and greatly value its strong sense of community, whole‑child approach, and forward‑thinking, curiosity‑driven ethos. Before joining, I taught Science across KS3 and KS4, served as Head of Year for Years 8–11, and led Child Development, gaining extensive experience in curriculum design, pastoral leadership, and academic development. I am passionate about nurturing the whole child by building curiosity, confidence, resilience, and independent thinking through engaging, meaningful learning. What I love most about the school is its strong sense of belonging, the genuine care shown for every pupil, and the privilege of watching them grow in confidence, individuality, and ambition. Beyond school, I enjoy musical theatre and volunteer with Trafford F.C.- supporting their community and matchday activities.
