At Bowdon Preparatory School, we understand that a successful transition to senior school depends as much on emotional wellbeing as it does on academic preparation. As a leading independent prep school serving families from Altrincham, Hale, Bowdon and across Greater Manchester, we work closely with each child to ensure they are ready for the opportunities and challenges ahead.
In Year 6, pupils take on a variety of leadership roles that foster independence and build essential life skills, including public speaking, teamwork, creative thinking and self-belief.
We ensure that every pupil is thoroughly prepared for grammar school and independent school entrance examinations where this is the right pathway for them, while keeping the journey enjoyable and rewarding. Formal entrance examination preparation begins in Year 3, giving each child the time, confidence and support needed to achieve their goals when the time comes to apply to their chosen senior schools across Trafford, Manchester and Cheshire. We also recognise that success looks different for every child and support families in finding the senior school environment in which their child will flourish, whether that involves a selective admissions process or not.
Parents are supported at every stage through clear communication and personalised guidance. Former pupils return to speak at information evenings in Years 5 and 6, offering first hand insights into a wide range of grammar and independent senior schools. Alongside this, termly review meetings ensure that parents, teachers and pupils work closely in partnership, helping every child reach their full potential and make a happy, confident transition to the next stage of their education.
